Just wondering if bunnies this size would be the size to thrive on their own

We had a bunny give birth in a pot (~18 inches tall) on our porch, they’re big enough that they’re wandering out of the den, but we are a bit worried that they wouldn’t be able to get back into the nest if they need to. Mom had been coming back to feed them (hence the bits of thread to see if she’s been coming back). We obviously aren’t intervening, but are curious for obvious cuteness reasons.

If they aren’t big enough now, they will be pretty soon! Like within the next few days.

They start wandering real young. If you wanna help just do it in ways they won’t see. Keep predators away or something.

So cute! I actually had a similar question a few weeks ago after seeing a tiny little guy around my house! Google said they are good to be on their own when their fur starts puffing out and they can eat solid foods like grass! I think in most cases it’s best to leave nature alone anyway and hope his instincts are strong enough to detect danger.

Yes! I have a bunch of babies on my property and they all start out so tiny. I love watching them grow.

Yes. That’s a youngin but it looks like it’s thriving.

Yes. Unlike domestic rabbit wild rabbit kits are kicked out of the nest at usually 4 weeks and fully independent by about 4.5-5 weeks

This little guy will pretty much be alright. His eyes are open and he looks like he put himself there.

I saw one of these on my front porch earlier 🙂

You’re doing the right thing, keeping back and observing. 👍 Bun mums are very smart, and keep their distance all day until feeding time. If you feel they have difficulty getting back, try making a ramp/climbing steps from something, to help them. I have no idea what age it is, but maybe 4 weeks? Does it eat vegetation yet, or exclusively milk? Wild buns develop twice as fast as domestic buns do. Usually when ready, they will leave the nest with mum and go forage and graze with her and the dad if he’s around. Putting something to indicate the mum has visited is very smart, but don’t worry if you need to pick one up and place it back, the mum won’t care if it smells of hoomans. Also, congratulations on being blessed by these beautiful animals! 🐇🥰

Yes they are the proper size to leave the burrow.

Bunnies love my yard and often make a burrow of sorts in my lawn and when I see this I mark it with stakes so myself or my sons know it is there when mowing the lawn. This is about the size the buns are when they venture out on their own.
