Bunny chirping

We have a 3yo special needs lionhead. Her back left leg is lame, and she has incontinence. She’s been making this “chirping” noise lately and we want to make sure it’s not a pain noise. She’s eating, drinking, and hobbling around as best she can. She makes this noise both when she’s awake and when she’s sleeping. It’s not constant, but we can’t really find a pattern to when she makes it. Anyone know if this is a happy noise or a pain noise? TIA

She doesn’t look distressed at all… Eating treats is always good. I think she might just be special all around❤️

That’s a sweet bunny! I really miss mine.

Husband and I had a special rabbit (she was an oopsie inbred bunny according to the previous owner) who made these sounds. We took her to the vet to rule out respiratory distress, and found nothing to worry about. If you’re concerned, take her to the vet to rule out anything that could impact her breathing and quality of life. The fact that she’s happily eating is an amazing sign though 🙂 Generally, rabbits in distress refuse to eat.

Hope this helps 🙂 I miss these sounds because our baby was so affectionate, and we miss her🩷

They say bunnies are non-vocal animals. Have people been breeding more vocal examples to be there or has it always been this way?

I’ve never heard a bun vocalize before. I always thought they only did it when yelling in pain or fright but… That doesn’t sound like a bad sound and she looks very happy eating the treat.

Aww, that’s definitely a happy sound! She’s absolutely beautiful, I love her. Was she disabled when you guys welcomed her to your family? I’d love to see more of her! She’s so fluffy, my one true weakness. 🥰🐇

My lionhead bunny does this all the time, especially when he’s grooming himself. It doesn’t mean that anything is wrong. My mini-rex does not make any noise, so I wonder if it’s a lionhead thing?

I have one that grunts another that squeaks and two that like to bite the top of Mt feet and all like to book me lol 😆

My lionhead grunts when he is not happy with me or someone around.

This is so sweet! She looks like mine. I actually ended up with mine because he twisted his leg. He is ok now though. The woman gave him and another bunny to us for free. She didn’t want to deal with them anymore.

Her loss, we love our bun buns! ❤️

That is a happy-contented noise and not one of distress.

Mine does this whenever he eats something he adores.
