My cat Fury just decided to become a foster mother. Don’t know why but Fury has been super interested in the litters, both this new one and the original. She has had (the cat) a litter and fostered another before we adopted her. Normal behavior?

Cats often co-raise kittens in a group with other cats so it’s pretty natural for them to foster, adopt and babysit babies… whether they’re cat babies or other babies. And she’s already shown she likes taking care of babies so, yeah, pretty normal that she wants to help take care of the little floofs.

This isn’t safe. House cats are the #1 killer of small mammals – they kill billions per year. Furthermore, cats can carry bacteria that can easily kill bunnies. Please separate them

Awwww. This is lovely. That cat is a proper mama. 🩷

My sister’s cat was like this, ended up killing the whole litter, please keep the cat away

r/catswithbuns is totally a thing. They don’t always get along, but yours sounds pretty affectionate.

i guess normal lol. a stray kitten decided to become a foster child of my rabbits when they had a 5w litter. she’s still hangs around but is too grown to get back in with them now so only gets supervised time

Very cute, just make sure you monitor at all times :)))

I’ll never understand putting prey animals with preditors, especially babies. The cat probably wants to be the favorite…or she’s hungry.

  9. Is there not enough rabbits in need of homes without breeding more on purpose.

Please please please do not allow your cat inside the cage with the rabbits. I understand it’s very wholesome and she may be doing a great job but it doesn’t take much for an animal to turn regardless of how well you know them.

Cats and rabbits co existing is entirely possible but it needs to be monitored correctly and as I said you should never allow the cat in their safe space. This could turn deadly very quickly so please keep them separated until the buns are grown and even after that do not allow them to interact unmonitored.

I understand that comments saying it’s cute etc normalise this situation but they shouldn’t, it’s cute, very cute, but also very dangerous and an unacceptable position to put a rabbit in, especially a juvenile, please take the appropriate measures to keep the litter safe.

Please fix the rabbits. I literally don’t know of any place where rabbits aren’t overpopulated, dumped, end up in shelters or killed

Sorry if I’m missing something, but is there a mother rabbit? If so, it would probably be distressing for her to have the cat in with her babies. Even if they are friends, rabbits are smart enough to know that cats are predators and their babies could be killed by the cat. Even slightly rough grooming by the cat- or grooming the eyes; can cause a deadly infection in rabbits. Cat saliva is very dangerous to them if it enters their blood stream through mucus membranes or a break in the skin.

Your cat is adorable and I’m not trying to say that she isn’t loving and affectionate, or that she wants to harm the babies. It’s just that their immune systems aren’t developed yet, they are very fragile, and this isn’t a safe situation. Once they get bigger and more agile, supervised interaction would be ok. Always provide a place that the bunnies can hide where the cat can’t fit, in case bunnies need some alone time. Keep in mind that they may resemble big rodents rather than rabbits to the cat because of their size.

I’m assuming that these are litters that you didn’t plan on and assuming that, thank you for caring for them. Rabbits are a very commonly dumped pet – the abandoned rabbit situation is getting crazy.

While I don’t have a mommy cat, I do have a dog who had 2 litters before and she tried this on my baby bun and the litter of kittens I have. Ofc, never left unsupervised but I do my best to keep them apart because of the risks. It’s beautiful! But be careful!

Stack the bunnies on top of the kitty! Do it now!

My female cat absolutely adores my male rabbit. She lays with him in his home and gives him licks. I think it may be normal
