It‘s not only me who thinks all the pet store toys are just plain boring – my rabbits don’t care for any of it, either. But I want to enrich them. The only thing they really play with is the good old toilet paper roll but even that got old pretty quickly. What toys do your rabbits actually play with? Bobo likes tossing and Fia loves chewing, but all the chewy toys from the pet store remain untouched. I am open to DIY something as well as to purchase some „rabbits of reddit proven toys“. Looking for original and unique ideas as well as inspiration.

Toilet paper rolls filled with hay, they will roll, chew, eat and mess your whole house and won’t cost you a cent.
I think the sidebar haa good info on toys
2 words. Cardboard box. Fill it with hay and treats like a scavenger hunt. Also a dig box my rab used to like it filled with her litter and hay and treats like a needle in a hay stack was also good for resting in after she tired herself out
Baby toys are great, like stacking cups or plastic keys for tossing. We made our buns a dig box out of a giant cardboard box and old clothes and ripped up paper. They loved that and eventually we had to throw it out because they destroyed it. We also have cardboard cat houses for them and they love to chew on them and use them as houses.
I’m a broken record on this one, sorry – a large box for digging is their favorite toy. Make it plastic with high walls, large enough for all of them to fit in and fill it with straw or coconut fibre (as in reptile bedding). They love it.
Other than that I sometimes take a plain paper bag and fill it with hay and fennel seeds. Just don’t do this right after cleaning their enclosure, it might explode over night.
Lastly, if you have that option, bring home some fresh branches and arrange them as a roof over their houses/furniture. Apple and willow are our favorites but they all should be free of pesticides and non-toxic of course. Eating and sleeping under or in their food is favored by all buns.
My bunnies love their cat tree and tunnel. Blankets are also good as they can simulate digging with them. One of my bunnies also likes playing reverse fetch with me by knocking small toys off the windowsil for me to ‘fetch’ and put back to be knocked off again etc.
Maybe get some puzzle toys to hide treats in. Someone posted the other day about the toy that has cups that spin and pellets/treats fall out of it when the buns push them. Also, a snuffle mat with goodies sprinkled on it could be stimulating for them. Of course, this is all under the assumption that your buns are food-motivated!
Toddler toys! Hard plastic keys and stacking cups are a must for my bun. He also really enjoys destroying willow balls. I like to do “bunny bags” too. Fill a small paper bag with hay and some treats/pellets. Close the bag either by twisting it or tie with a small amount of twine. Poke a few small holes in the bag and let them chew through it to get to the food.
Its bunstruction time. Something to pique their interest and go to town with. I see in their eyes, they are waiting for this.
I just had the drawstring of my hoodie come out and turns out my bun likes to play tug with the end of it, he’s pretty strong tbh
No ideas but they’re such cute babiesðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Cardboard anything.
Cardboard box
This might be too simple, but I buy eggs that come with the cardboard cartons and fill with pellets and hay. Then I put the egg carton into a paper bag and rip the front of the bag so I can shove the ripped part into the holes of the egg carton essentially locking them together. Sometimes it takes my bun a good 10 mins to get the bag off lol then she rolls the carton around, throws it, until the pellets fall out or the carton finally opens lol
My rabbit absolutely loves rope. He chews on it, throws it around, will chase after it if I flip it around, etc. He also has some stacking cups, and he goes crazy for those treat balls (I put some of his pellets in them).
