best pellet brands?

Hey all! My 3 y/o dutchie was recently diagnosed with a mild and treatable kidney disease after a rough year of a few trips to the vet with gi stasis. she’s lost a lot of weight and the vet recommended feeding her more pellets. recently we ran out and forget what brand we used previously. we bought the Oxbrow essential adult rabbit food ones but it seems like her belly isn’t sitting well with it (as of today she pooped only a little bit and they were a little bigger, moist, dark poops. gave her some cisapride to help with her belly and lots of hay) but i feel like this could be the pellet change. do you guys have any recommendations?

also while im here- ive heard giving them oats helps them gain weight. is this a good idea?

thanks so much guys🤍.

here’s a few pics of her 🙂

We get ours from small pet select, which the shelter said is a good brand. Selective brand is recommended by our vet. The shelter said oxbow is “okay”, a more basic brand.

  2. Our rabbit has long term kidney issues (blood results for this side of his health were not good for last 5-6 years), so we feed him with Science Selective Vetcare Urinary health. They work pretty well and have quite high fibers content.

Depending on age and size, could recommend to limit daily amount of those pellets so no weight gaining occurs (in former years it was about 25 gr daily for weight of 2.4 kg). In our case not an issue anymore since at the current age we are fighting weight loss anyway.

Edit: that’s a UK based company btw

  3. Sherwood. If your bun is under weight, I think you could go with their free choice pellets. They have the best customer service and you can consult what is the right option for your bun.
