My little baby is 4 going 5 in February next year. He was diagnosed with E. cuniculi in Dec 2023 after presenting with seizures and head tilting. We brought him to an emergency 24-hour clinic immediately and were able to get him to an exotic specialist the day after, where he tested positive. He was hospitalized for 2 nights before we brought him home. He recovered well with the help of medication for 28 days and IV fluids which we administered to him at home (no more seizures nor any permanent head tilt). However, the vet did say his kidneys were irreversibly damaged and we would have to try to get him to increase his daily water intake with veggies.
He had been doing well for the last 6 months since his check up in February this year, but during his follow up yesterday, we were told that his kidney values have worsened and to get back on IV fluids 2-3 times a week. My mind is spiraling out of control because I don’t want him to suffer or lose him so young. He is the most outgoing, fun-loving, curious, silly little bun you’ll find and I’m hoping he’ll get to enjoy life for as long as he can. Any tips or advice from bun pawrents who have experienced/are experiencing similar situations? (If you are a vet lurking and have guidance to offer, please also share them!!)
