I had to go away on a trip for about 8 days, and just came back today. Since i have no relatives or friends that could take care of my bun while i was away, the saleswoman of the pet shop i get my 4 month old rabbit food at, told me that they could look after him for the time being. I agreed since there was no one else i could turn to. The day i left him there they assured me it’d be alright and that they’d take good care of him. Today i came back, and picked up my rabbit from the shop, and brought him back home. I noticed that his cage had an unpleasant smell to it, which usually doesn’t happen since i clean the cage every 2-3 days, sometimes even every day. I got to cleaning his cage today and as soon as i lifted up the first layer of hay, i was horrified to see 8 days worth of poo underneath, and a bunch of small flies (the ones that usually gather around on cow or pig farms) filled my bathroom. I finished cleaning and went to see if my bun was hungry, and j was surprised, to say the least, to see him jumping on me to get food. I simply feel guilty for entrusting my bun to the shop. Lesson learned, never again.
