Ok so.. I purchased two “female” holland lop bunnies back in march 2024. I noticed mounting and some weird behaviors from one of them and honestly suspected it could be possible it was a male. I have never had holland lop or any bunny prior so I really did not know.
Anyway fast forward to this morning.. to my surprise I found 4 baby bunnies surrounded by lots of fur. That was scattered throughout their enclosure. I had no idea what to do.. was in shock and also nervous because they seemed to be in distress pushing themselves around in the open enclosure.
So first, I cleaned up the cage a bit and moved the bunnies (with gloves) to a safer spot which is a little basket. I kept all of the fur they were surrounded by.
Since doing this they have stayed in the same spot and are more protected then just out in the open.
I then tried to narrow down which bunny was the mom although I still am questioning it.
I separated my 2 bunnies but left their cages touching. They seem to be pretty upset about this and neither of them seem happy. I read they can get pregnant again like very soon after birth and am trying to avoid that.
My concern is, so far, I have not seen the “mom” interact with the bunnies- not once. They seem content for the most part so I am hoping I just have not caught her near them.
My question is.. does any one have any advice on what to do.. what not to do.. is it normal for the mom
Not to lay down with the bunnies .. I’ve had kittens before and the mom seems to always be with the kittens.
