First post on Reddit after lurking so long loool. Ok, so ive had my rescue pair (lynx m 2yo, and fawn f 3-4yo) bonded for about a year. It was a dream, bonded in about 3-4 weeks, no fighting, just took a long time to understand each other. They are super super close now, but im not sure who is really the dominant bunny, lynx still sometimes chases her but usually ends up submitting. He’s almost always the one that grooms. That’s mostly how they bonded — he was very annoying about wanting to be dominant, she ignored him and sometimes tried to dominate back, and then he would always give in. Then they were bffs. Basically, fawn is super laid back and lynx is the problem child haha.
I’ve been thinking about a rabbit trio since i brought fawn home for lynx about a year ago, and ive finally found a rabbit i think would be good for them. 4yo male same size as the two of them. I figure a third would be nice to have around since lynx is prone to destructive boredom as a very young and active bunny, and since fawn is more prone to health issues as a lop, thought it would be nice backup to have a third if something were to happen to her in the long run so that lynx wouldnt be as depressed.
I’m fully able to support 3 rabbits, i have the time and space, etc. I’m just very very nervous about trying to bond them, and the bond breaking. The rescue does a date at their location once, then in a few days I take him home to foster + bond (of course with pre-bonding for a couple weeks). I’ve heard people say that bonding a trio can break up the original pair, what is the chance of that happening if lynx and fawn are so close to begin with? Are trios lost causes for the most part, or is it worth a try? Really not looking to form a quad, even though i know those may work better sometimes. Even the successful trios I’ve seen online tend to be very fragile it seems like. IDK, I’m just nervous by nature so I need a little help in making this decision. I’m very worried that the trio might end up breaking up in the long run just because its a trio lol. hope this isnt too long, wanted to provide enough detail! <3
