(Don’t worry, picture is not her permanent home! She needs to wait 5 minutes between each of her eye drops, and doesn’t like being held for long spells, so she goes into this cage for about 15 minutes so she can eat her pellets or salad while I put her drops in).
We had a scare on Sunday and again on Monday. On Sunday evening we noticed that Flopsy’s left eye was clouding over. We got an emergency vet appointment for Monday morning. By then it had gotten worse.
Vets said they aren’t eye specialists, but suspected Glaucoma. I was panicking! I’ve read that congenital Glaucoma can’t be cured, just controlled with medication, so I was so worried that Flops would be on meds her whole life and maybe someday lose her eye!
We got an emergency appointment with an eye specialist Tuesday morning. Flopsy was hating me for making her go in her crate and a car ride 2 days in a row. But we got great news straight away!
The cloudiness and slight swelling is caused by a swelling in her eye tissue, which the vet believes has been caused by an infection or previous eye damage. Either way he’s confident that she does not have Glaucoma and will recover with treatment. He did say that if we hadn’t got her treatment, she could have developed Glaucoma and eventually go blind in that eye!
So she’s costing me a small fortune in treatments, including 3 different eye drops and pain killers/anti- inflammatory meds.
She’s such a good girl and sits nicely while I do her eye drops (especially if bribed with food). Both her usual vet and the specialists praised her for being such a calm, friendly girl.
