Building a rabbit hutch was a project that was bound to happen at some point. I have been wanting rabbits of our own for various reasons for a while now. So when my neighbor asked me to build them some cages for their bunnies I thought, “perfect.”

Additional info about sore hocks:
Rabbits can turn up with sore hocks on any type of flooring. The condition known as Ulcerative Pododermatitis has many known causes such as hard surfaces, exposure to constant moisture, compromised immune system, excessive thumping and bacterial infection.
All wire bottom floors can cause problems IF the grid spacing of the wire is too wide and the gauge of wire used is too thin. I recommend no more than 1/2″ spacing with 16 gauge wire. 1/4″ spacing with 23 gauge wire may be used for smaller breeds of rabbits. I also recommend it be galvanized to prevent rusting.
Additionally, the inclusion of something as simple as a piece of cardboard or a grass mat will provide entertainment as well as a place to lounge if they wish to get off the wire.
In the summer time our rabbits lounge on the wire and in the winter they don’t seem to care.
