8 month old bunny passed away

Any explanation for a 8-9 month old bunny to pass unexpectedly? No warning signs. Eating and eliminating with no issue. Plenty of excercise. Fed unlimited hay, watered daily, and occasional pellets and leafy greens. Bonded with another female. No injuries. I have a dog who is never around the bunnies. So I’m ruling out heart attack from scare. So sad and can’t find a new sister for my bunny for another few weeks so she has a stuffed animal for now.

Ok of you have no signs and another Rabbit/other Pets i suggest an autopsy/necropsy (don’t know the correct term)
Afaik there should be no reason for a young healthy Rabbit to die so he May have caught something unexpectedly

As suggested a necropsy could be useful. Especially if you have other rabbits or pets. Could be something they ate or contact with wild fauna diseases.

Really strange. Maybe until you find out the cause of death, hold off on getting another bunny. Also let your other bun spend some time around the body because that’s how animals process death and understand that their companion won’t be coming back.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Were your bunnies vaccinated for RHDV2? I know you can’t do a necropsy at this point but since this was a sudden death I would make sure your other bunny has been protected.

RHDV2, E. Cuniculi, GI Stasis..there are a few different things that could have been affecting her. I’m so sorry for your loss. I strongly recommend having your remaining bunbun checked out thoroughly and vaccinated, if she wasn’t already. Definitely wait until she’s been cleared by the veterinarian, before adopting another friend. I hope you get some answers and peace of mind. Love & light. 🌙🖤

So sorry to hear this. I lost one of my buns at 8 months old as well, also a mystery as to why she passed so suddenly. I didn’t get a necropsy done. But I assume it was a heart attack because of her constant anxiety.

Rabbits are fragile animals with a high reproductive rate.

Unfortunately that means that they can die unexpectedly.

I’m terribly sorry for your loss.

  9. Sometimes the keeper of the garden beyond the rainbow bridge summons a pet early. And that’s fine. Bummer for us, but it’s fine.

  10. I have no idea, but I’m so sorry for your loss 🖤
