Hi guys! Fairly new bunny owner here. I’ve got two Holland Lops, JP and Beebo. They are the sweetest.
We have an outdoor yard for them and they have their own room in our house. They’ve taken over. 😅 We taught them to use a little cat door so they come in and out as they please. Their hay, pellets and litter boxes are inside. My question is if they need a warmer place for the winter. The room used to be a car port so it has a cement floor. It does have one heating vent and definitely doesn’t get below freezing in the winter but it’s cold compared to the house.
Should I have a box or bed of some kind for them either in or outside? I’ve done some online research but there is a lot of varying info out there.
I live in Boise, ID for location reference. Thanks!

Might be good to get more heat in the room. Having a large carpet on the floor also helps retain heat for them. I’m just north of you in Alberta (much colder) and my bun lives indoor full time with temps around 70. He gets to go out to the yard but usually bugs back indoors after awhile for the warmer climes.
That third bun on the right, in the second pic… might need a bit of a diet.
Personally I would never let my buns go outside without me supervising them. I know you love your buns, and you would feel terrible if a predator got to them when you weren’t around to protect them.
Having a carpet would help. A way to get off the floor. Maybe an elevated enclosed box with straw. They say with stay cats too use straw instead of blankets because it’s a better insulator.
Bro looks like the word spoinkus
Rabbits do really well in the cold and seem to enjoy it. So long as they can get away from drafts and moisture, they will be happy in temps way below what we are comfortable in. A box filled with straw that they can get in is sufficient.
They are both adorable!!
Lovely bunnies :)) I’m just going to reiterate that I really wouldn’t advise letting the bunnies outside unsupervised… predators won’t always be scared away by your dog…. Not trying to sound rude or anything, I just don’t think you can ever be too careful with rabbits 🙂
oh wow hes gorgeous! I have literally no advice because im a new bun mom but holy moly I had to tell you how gorgeous he is!
