does anybody know why bunnies puff up when they’re sleepy? for example…. before vs after. this happens to both of my buns.

I’m going to guess either insulation or comfort.

To become more comfortable for themselves, as they are their own pillow

2nd pic: “Maaaaan, I’m so tired. Can’t wait to tucker in my paw and cuddle with the lil coco puff that I’ve conveniently placed beside me. Being cute is such hard work.”

Just when your bunny decides it’s nap time they decide to get cuter like it’s not a big deal, HOW’RE YOU DOING THAT?

Hmmm….need more pictures of sleepy buns to get a proper sample size.

It’s a natural blanket. Floofing their coat traps air in it and keeps them tosty while they nap

I call it loafing. They are become loaf. Sweet delicious bread

My Harlequin does this too. I think it’s just too look bigger, a engrained survival mechanism.

Could just be the winter coat coming in. My bunnies usually start shedding this time of year, mine used to let me know by plopping down in my lap so I could scratch their backs because the shedding is itchy. Otherwise bunno is fine, just puffing up a bit to take a nap. Might need an insulated blanky fortress of doom like mine has… she uses it to plan out her attacks and charges. It’s quite effective.

They become balls of fluff when they loaf

    The nature of every bun

They want to look big, as to scare you into thinking twice before disturbing their sleep. Scientific fact…source, trust me bro lol

I think maybe it is a trying to keep warm technique. I do it myself. 🥶

Horses do it when it’s cool out! Our horse Butterfly gets cold the easiest of the three and poofed the other night, I love it.

Probably to keep snow off the skin to provide insulation

I didn’t think this happened to anyone else😭 my bun would do this when he was angry (he was a Nethie though, always angry)
