Bonnie started making this noise today. She frequently goes back and forth between this and then settles down and is completely quiet and relaxed. Any ideas??

Quiet/ moderate teeth grinding can indicate happy and content. Like a cats purr. I’d say it means this, given the slow eye blink and context of head grooming! Loud teeth grinding can mean discomfort but normally accompanied by other signs on the grimace scale I think which are absent here in this video
Edit- missed that this is new. I’d say that the nose twitch is pretty fast which could indicate agitation too. You know your bun best if this is unusual maybe do a health check or even book a vet visit
This is a rather bizarre sound, I haven’t heard that ever from my bun. I hope you can get answers!
I’ve only had one bun, so I’m no expert. I don’t ever recall hearing this type of sound. Just a guess that it sounds like it may be congestion, but perhaps my speakers are distorting the sound. When in doubt, it’s prudent to get it checked out by a vet.
Shes purring/grinding her teeth, it means shes a happy, content, safe and loved feeling bun!
My bunny is occasionally doing the same sound when I pet him. Nothing but a happy bunny here.
If you think it’s coming from the nose with her breathing, you should take her to the vet
You may want to check out the videos from the following Wabbit Wiki under Respiratory and Ear Symptoms. See [https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Veterinary_emergencies](https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Veterinary_emergencies) (I created a separate comment here, as I understand you won’t receive another notice if I edit my original comment.)
She’s purring.
I disagree with the comments saying this is purring. The sound seems to be related to her breathing, comfort tooth grinding is (in my rabbits) slower and while they are resting/relaxed. Rabbits tend to hide their illnesses as long as possible so they don’t upset group dynamics and attract predators. That’s why I always recommend seeing a professional as soon as they show the first symptom. Show this video to a rabbit-savvy vet, they will check her lungs, nose and teeth (overgrown roots can put pressure on respiratory tracts, my boy started sneezing a lot). Good luck to you and your bun, she looks like my Muffinchen.
Sounds like a potential respiratory issue, with maybe an infection. You should go to a vet asap. Could be nothing but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Her nose movements are to fast for it to be happy teeth grinding. I would get her checked by a rabbit savy vet.
Yea that’s not tooth purring, even fast paced tooth purring you can see tiny jaw movements. This sounds similar to some noises my rabbit was making when she was first sick (she has an upper respiratory infection).
I’d definitely get her to the vet. You don’t want to wait for it to get worse, believe me.
It’s definitely not purring, theres no jaw movements and it’s too fast, please take her to the vet asap as it could be a respiratory infection
Shes happy. My male bunny use to do that.
Is it hot there? My rabbit would breath fast like that when I first got her
Not a veterinarian, just a paramedic bun owner. But I would suggest seeing the vet asap anyways, if that’s your buns breathing, their respiratory rate is way too high I would be worried about something affecting their breathing. If it turns out to be a weird purr that your rabbit does, you didn’t waste money you just ruled out a serious condition that could’ve hurt your bun.
Tooth grinding like that is reminiscent of purring for bunnies, it mean he’s very happy and content
This reminds me of the noise my late Maximus, also a lop, was doing. Turns out lops and really any “smooshed face” bunnies can be impacted by a general buildup of nasal discharge. We ended up getting into a routine of having his sinuses flushed, (really simple procedure usually only local anesthetics needed) and this helped him out greatly!
We even started to have is bunwife Rose, who isn’t a lop, get hers flushed and it was really quick and simple.
This doesn’t seem normal. It’s too fast to be “purring” teeth grinding. Take Bonnie to the vet, please.
I just want to say that I have no idea what is going on here, but that bunny is SOOOO CUUUUTTE!
Sounds like teeth chatter almost, take her to the vet. She could be in pain or it could be a respiratory issue. Or both
Please take her to the vet. I wonder if she has a respiratory or ear infection.
this noise sounds concerning. I do not believe this is purring or grinding of the teeth.
Could you take your bun to the vet to get this checked? If so please please keep us updated.
Your rabbit appears to be in pain. It’s nose twitching so rapidly also indicates stress.
Please take Bun to the vets ASAP.
I’ve learned that anything out of the ordinary happens with rabbits, just take them to the vet asap. These little furballs have a deathwish I swear.
