Question about my bun (in description)

When he lays down on his tummy sometimes I can hear him breathing like a little squeaker toy. His eyes are open but I don’t think bunnies sleep with there eyes open do they? After a bit his eyes do shut and it looks like he’s sleeping but the I hear like his teeth clicking while he’s doing that. Is that a sign of pain or him just sleeping and dreaming?

Either he’s VERY excited or he has a cold/flu or maybe breathed in some dust. If he was from other stronger breeds I’d tell you to not worry and let his immune system work with no worries.
But being a round & fluffy ball of lint, I’d recommend you to take him to a vet for a light chechup.

the teeth grinding sounds like he is very comfy to me? Cause my bun does that whenever he’s about to snooze at least when he’s loafed and bunnies can sleep with their eyes open! But your bun has a real flat face so I think he might have trouble breathing properly and thats where that noise comes from? I’d definitely ask a vet

I’m a little concerned about the heavy breathing. I’d get that checked out.

The tooth grinding is probably just being comfy! Especially if she only does it when she’s getting comfy and sleepy. And they do sleep with a clear membrane covering their eyes especially in the early stages of sleep.

Your bunny is fine. Don’t worry. My bun makes that noise out of pleasure, excitement, or bc of snuffles which one of mine does, but no danger to him having snuffles forever, he just snores…a lot haha

Many of the lop breeds are prone to respiratory issues due to the smooshed face and nose area. Two of mine have had serious breathing issues and the vet keeps saying it’s really common. Are you seeing wetness around the nose or eyes?

The biggest help has been nebulizing. And also having a really good air purifier in his main living area. We got the Shark HP102PET on a really good sale which has automatic sensing.

He’s sleeping and dreaming of eating. They definitely sleep with eyes open. A lot of flat faced rabbit breeds snore or make squeaky sounds in there noses – just like pugs and bulldogs.
