I adopted my first rabbit last July. So far, it’s been great. He’s semi-free roam and I spend 3-5 hours socializing with him. This is my first experience with a rabbit but he hasn’t really shown any negative behaviors or signs he’s not happy and/or healthy. We’ve both been bonded for a while now, maybe two weeks after I initially got him.
Still I know rabbits lived better in pairs so I decided to start the bonding progress.
It hasn’t been anything like I thought. I knew it’d be tough but my rabbit really hasn’t been enjoying it at all. He’s withdrawn in a way. He used to love being pet and being spoiled with treats but now it’s like he hates even having to socialize with me. I can tell he’s stressed and it’s killing me.
Would it be bad to keep him as a solo bunny? Right now it’s working out and I genuinely think he seems happy, he’s even flopped right next to me! I do have to admit I’m worried how things will go once I start my new job next month. I still plan to spend at least 1 hour actively socializing with him and more time besides him while I work/clean/cool/etc at home. But is that enough? He seems to be okay with it now even more with his enrichment activities but I know most bunnies do well with a partner?
