Hello! I got my rabbit Stormy (pictured) almost 2 years ago. At the time, I had another rabbit. Once they were spayed and neutered and allowed to interact, they bonded instantly and were pretty much inseparable (second picture). Onyx passed away unexpectedly in July. Stormy handled it okay, until it got to be too cold and wet to play outside in the yard. He has really declined and seems to be depressed. Vet says he’s physically fine but agrees that he may be having some “seasonal depression”.
My partner and I have discussed it, and decided to get another rabbit from a rescue. She is already spayed and is living in a foster placement with 2 other rabbits and does well. The description of her personality really matches Stormy’s personality perfectly.
The only issue is that we are moving into a new home on March 6. I want to set everyone up for success- Stormy, the new rabbit, the dogs, my partner and I. How long should I give the current zoo and family to “settle in” before adding this new family member? The rescue knows we’re moving and want to settle in first, so there’s no rush.
