Last night my husband and I were driving and saw 5 young rabbits grazing on a grass patch in a Home Depot parking lot. We had a dog cage in back and tried to see if we could rescue them. We soon found their mother near by. We gave up after a few hours, and contacted rabbit rescues in the morning. I have rescued one domestic rabbit before that was abandoned behind my house. I don’t think I will be able to catch 5 of them just with my husband, I contacted my local rabbit rescue associations, I am in lower mainland BC, all rescues said they do not have the means to rescue them as their are so many abandoned rabbits in my area, and that all that could be done is to list them on abandoned rabbits.com, which I have done. We are able to foster them for a little while if shelters can’t take them. The babies seem to be about three weeks old.
Anytime I’d go near the babies they’d run into a bush, I grabbed some romaine lettuce from a store near by and sat by them gently giving them some. After an hour they were friendly with my husband and I and would come within arms reach. The mama also ate some lettuce that I put near her but she was very skiddish and would if I tried to put my hand out.
If anyone is in the lower mainland area and has any resources or could help please pm me. Any advice is welcome, I feel so sad just not helping them further.
