First time bunbun owner
Hi! My name is Mads and I just got two 8 week old bucks from a farm that was going to cull them 🥲.
I thought it would be fun to be apart of a bunny forum of sorts, so here I am!
I’ve named my buns Klaus (brown) and Elijah (black). Any TVD or Originals fans here? lol
I’ve had them for 2 days now and I’m trying to get them to warm up to me. I sat in a play pen and just let them do there thing and tried feeding alfalfa hay when they approach me or climb on me. Elijah climbs on me A LOT but so far isn’t a huge fan if I try to give him a gentle stroke. I honestly think he’s just trying to get out of the pen and climbing me would be the easiest way lol he climbed all the way to my shoulders! Klaus climbed on my lap here and there and happily took hay from me. He does seem to enjoy a good pet on the head, behind the neck, upper back, and cheeks. He did lick me a few times. Do you think it’s because of affection or salt? I would guess the latter since he doesn’t know me very well yet. What do you guys think?
I had an old XL dog cage (2X4ft) so I used that for their cage, but it still seems small for two buns and I’m considering getting customizable pens to attach to the cage to make it larger. I’m also getting a new water feeder that screws to the cage (still a blow and not the hamster like ones) so they can’t poop in the wide bowl I have now, I just chose that bowl for now so they can’t knock it over 😂
Also, I’ve been doing some googling about bonding and it sounds like I should separate them until I get them neutered? If so, I can put one in the play pen (with a mat bottom) separately that I’m getting. I have everything else needed for two separate cages.
Any tips or constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated!
